Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is very low key at our house. This year I did get a card for Jake from Alex. I put the pen in Alex’s hand and he made his mark on the card. When we got home there was a balloon for Alex. He wasn’t too sure what to do at first but he figured it out.

 

 

The grandparents sent cards for Alex and he loved them! Mostly he enjoyed licking them but he did get very excited about something new to lick!

Shhh! Don't Tell Anyone!!!!

I have to be fast. My mom doesn't like me to use her computer and with all the drooling I do she will figure out quick that I was messing around with it.



She has gone a little crazy. I call it Crazy Christmas Mama. She saw a picture on Pinterest and so she thought I needed to be like that baby.

Well, I'm doing the best I can but that baby can sit up and I can't and I REALLY like to put things in my mouth (it really is the best way to find out about them you know!) and I like to wiggle a lot! So I hear a lot of NO NO NO.

Then she saw more things on Pinterest and she thought I should make these ornaments. (If you are a greandparent don't look any farther!!!!!! Grandma Allen this means you!!!) I tried but - holding still isn't my best thing yet. SO she puts me in the chair that I eat in (I think I am going to eat) and all of a sudden she comes at my foot with paint. It wasn't too bad but I really wanted to play or eat or something else.

I am hoping that with the presents open maybe things will be back to normal. Maybe Dad and I can keep her off Pinterest!!!

We are so grateful to those that serve our country in all branches of the military. My grandfather served as a marine in World War 2. Alex has members of his birth family who have served and others are now serving our country.  I have had children in my class at school whose parents were deployed. It is hard on the family. If you are a veteran- Thank You! If you are the family member of a veteran- Thank You!

I remember where I was on September 11, 2001. I was on my way to work when I heard what was going on. We had hard time getting information about what exactly was going on and anything really. Since I was teaching school, we needed to have as normal a day as possible- not easy! My sister was living in the Washington DC area at the time; although she did not work near the Pentagon.

 

This is a day to be thankful for what we have, the country we live in and the freedoms we have. It is a day to let your friends and family know how much you care

Busy! Busy! Busy!

Life has gotten CRAZY here!

The end of the school year is coming fast (way too fast I think. I have more things to do than I have days to get it done!) All the teachers are working hard to get the end of the year checklists done!

We voted at the beginning of May. Here was an amendment regarding marriage that really brought the voters out. In the weeks since, I have noticed that very few people don’t care. Everyone feels strongly about their position. It has lead to some interesting conversations at work.

We also had Mother’s Day. This has been a tough day for me for a long time. I am always glad when it is over.

Summer is coming and we are looking forward to it. We have about 10 blueberries that are getting bigger everyday! Maybe we can make one blueberry waffle or one blueberry muffin.

I saw this on Pinterest and thought I can make that and make it for cheap!

I went to the website for the directions and there were just more pictures so here’s what I did.

I gathered my supplies (get the Diet Coke first):

Felt (Wal.mart only 20 cents each!)

Embroidery floss (I had this)

Copy paper (I had this too)

Needle

Buttons

Stuffing (I used bits of felt and shredded paper)

Cut heart patterns out of the copy paper. Trace the pattern on the felt. I cut both hearts out at once (to be sure they would match).

Add decorations to the top heart (buttons, stars, etc).

Sew the hearts together (I used a blanket stitch). Leave an open side for stuffing.
Stuff the heart and sew it shut!

I made three and they were quick and super easy.

Now I can say I really have made something I found on Pinterest!

Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas. We spent some time at my parent’s home in Virginia. My brother and his family were able to come as well as my sister and her family. (My other brother and sister and their families were with the in-laws this year.) One of the nieces got an easel from Santa. It was a huge hit (with everyone)!

We had a great time eating, laughing and telling stories.  Uncle Jake was the hit of the party (as usual!!) He talked football with the nephews. He has not turned them into Dallas fans but isn't giving up. They may see the light soon!!!

My dad is the baby whisperer. All babies seem to love him. He has a magical way of soothing fussy babies too.

Opening presents was an adventure with so many people. We tried to label everything right after it was opened so it all went home with the right family. We also threw all the paper away quickly. We are pretty sure no presents got thrown away. The kids all loved their presents. My dad is a HUGE Star Wars fan (and a huge cookie fan).  He got a great T-Shirt! It was the best present of the day!

We had a wonderful time. It is always great to see everyone! We hope your Christmas was as great as ours!

New Ornaments

We draw names in my family for Christmas. With so many nieces and nephews it really is a lot of people to buy for. This year I had my sister Lori and her family (Lori if you are reading- STOP NOW).

I made some ornaments for my sister. I have seen them on the internet and they were super easy!!! I rolled the red paper up and put it in the ornament.  After it was as full as I wanted (I stopped adding more paper when the paper didn't move when I shook the ornament), I painted the belt buckle. After that dried, I painted the black belt. I did all free hand. They are not perfect but I think they look great!

I didn’t have enough paper to make all six ornaments into Santa bellies- so I made two snowmen (I had white paper). I did the same thing rolling the paper and putting it in the ornament. Then when it was full, I painted the nose on. After that dried, I used the handle of a paint brush to make the dots for the eyes and mouth.

Waiting for the paint to dry took longer than anything.  I wanted to keep them myself so I am hoping I can get some more clear ornaments (maybe for 75% off) and make some for us. You could fancy them up by adding ribbon by the hanger or a cute hat to Frosty but I like them simpler (and I needed to get them in the mail).

Here's what you need:
Clear ornaments (mine came from Michaels)
black paint (I had some. It's just regular black acrylic)
aorange and silver paint (I bought the glittery orange and silver at Walmart. It was in the scrapbook section and only 97 cents!)
red and white cardstock (I  had the paper- left over from another project look in the scrapbook section of the craft store!)
