Plants

The plants are growing here!

We are growing cilantro and blueberries. So far we have little tiny cilantro sprouts. I am trying to start the seeds in shifts so we will have cilantro for a while. Ideally- some will be ready and then two or three weeks later some more will be ready.

This year we have a few blueberries on the smaller bush. I don't know if the bigger bush will EVER have fruit on it. There aren't many berries yet but I hope we will get to eat some! I think the birds may get to the berries first.

We also have a columbine plant that I put in the grove of trees. It is doing pretty well so far. I am a bit worried since it has been so hot the past couple days.  Hopefully it will add some color to that part of the yard.

What is growing at your house?

Some new organization

I have been keeping my necklaces on a pile in the medicine cabinet. It has not been working to well. I have been thinking about what I can do to make them easier to get to and used more often.

I finally decided that hanging the necklaces would be the easiest and best thing to do. I don’t have enough room in the medicine cabinet so I needed another place. I thought about using a wall but don’t want hairspray on them. We have a linen closet in our bathroom and I thought that the inside of the door would work great.

I used some Com.mand Ho.oks I already had (they are really for Christmas lights but didn’t work for what we wanted so I tried them here!). You can get them at Wal.mart.

I put them on the door and used the rectangles to space and line them up. (I did wait the hour it says on the package to be sure the hooks are set.)

Then I hung up the necklaces. Ta-Da!!

So far the only problem is  I forget they are there and fling the door open (then it makes a lot of noise). But I think that will get better in time! (There is also room for more!!!)

Total cost: 0$ (but if you have to buy the hooks it will be lsee than 5$)
Time: 1 hour (but only because I had to wait the hour for things to be secure!)

It's beginning to look a bit like Christmas!

We are in the middle of decorating for the holidays. I stretch it out a bit. I do a little here and a little there. When we first moved, I went a little overboard. The house we have now has a different layout and it is easy to over fill a room with Christmas decorations.  I change things a bit each year and enjoy moving things a bit as the season goes on. We put things on the mantle (but not the stockings. I haven’t found stocking holders I like but this year I saw a new idea that I really like! Here’s a picture-what do you think?)

from pinterest.com
use a drapery rod to hang the stockings on!!!

We also decorate the tree and do some on the outside of the house. It has been either raining or threatening rain for days and not much is done outside yet.

There are so many great crafts and printables on the internet right now! Pinterest is a great resource-not only will you see a picture but most of the time you get a link to the directions! Here’s just a few!

(I just noticed these are ALL ornaments! There is so much more!)

I’ll keep working on the Christmas decorations! Pictures coming soon!

Have you heard?????

Have you heard? HGTV has decided to publish a magazine!!!! I saw a whole show about it over the weekend (is that marketing or what?!?) It told how the magazine is put together, what some of the regular columns will be and how it all came together.

The first issue is supposed to come out October 4. Then I believe it said there will be one more before January and then starting in 2012 it will be every month.

I love HGTV. I enjoy all the tips and tricks they have but do miss the crafty shows they used to have. I hope that there will be room in the magazine for a little bit of craftiness as well as lots of decorating and home improvement ideas.  I can't wait for the first issue!

Here's the link if you want to try it too!!

(I am not getting paid in any way for this post!)

A New Project

I am working on cleaning out my closet. I found some counted cross stitch kits in a bag WAAAAYYYY in the back. Of course, looking through the bag was more fun than cleaning out the closet and so I found a new project to start. It is a Christmas project but it is so HOT here that looking at snowmen and thinking about winter will help cool us off!
Here's the package. It should look like this when I am done!
I got all my stuff together. The highlighter helps me keep my place. That is the hardest thing in a counted cross stitch pattern. If you lose your place, it will impact things down the road. Sometimes you can fix it but usually you have to pick things out. It is very frustrating and I have put projects aside for LONG periods of time because I messed up and can’t figure out how to fix it.
The kit has everything I need except the hoop, highlighter and scissors.  I usually separate the floss and put it on index cards but since I didn’t have any index cards I had to improvise. I found an empty Diet Coke box and cut that up. I taped around the fabric so it won’t fray while I am working on it.

I punched holes in the cardboard and wrote the color names by each hole.

I’m thinking that I can get this done by the end of the month!
Wish me luck!
